Introduction

VoltPilot ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application VoltPilot (the "App") and this website.

VoltPilot does not require an account, and we never ask for your name or email address in the App. Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

Information We Collect

1. Location Data

We use location data to provide our core EV charger finding and route planning services:

• Precise GPS Location: Your current location, if you allow it, to show nearby charging stations and to use as a route starting point
• Route Coordinates: The origin and destination points of routes you plan
• Search Locations: Places you search for within the app

How we use location data:

• Display EV chargers near your location or along your route
• Calculate distances to charging stations
• Plan routes between locations
• Understand how the App is used (see "Route records" below)

Route records we store: Each time you plan a route, we store a record containing the route's origin and destination coordinates (at full precision), the route distance, the number of chargers found, your platform (iOS or Android), and a timestamp. If you start a route from "current location," the origin is your GPS position at that time, which may be your home or workplace.

• These records are stored in our Google Firebase (Firestore) database and the same route details are also sent to Google Firebase Analytics
• The database record itself does not contain your anonymous app identifier, name, or email. The Firebase Analytics copy is associated with Firebase's app-instance identifier, like other analytics events
• They are used to understand how VoltPilot is used and to improve it. They are not publicly accessible and are not shared with advertisers
• They are kept until deleted, including at your request (see "Data Deletion")

2. Analytics, Performance & Error Data

We use Google Firebase Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics, and Firebase Performance Monitoring to understand how the App is used and to improve stability and speed. We collect:

• App Usage Events: Features you use, such as routes planned (including the route coordinates described above), chargers viewed, filters applied, and shared links opened
• User Properties: Whether you have Pro, how many AI insights you have used, and your platform
• Device Information: Device model, operating system version, app version
• Session Information: How long you use the app, when you use it
• Error Information: Crash reports, API errors, and service failures (via Firebase Crashlytics)
• Performance Information: App start time, screen rendering, and the timing and outcome of network requests (via Firebase Performance Monitoring)

Crashlytics collects:

• Stack traces when errors occur
• Service context (which feature failed)
• HTTP status codes (with API keys removed from URLs)
• Device state at time of error

We also use Firebase Remote Config to adjust app settings (such as daily free-tier limits and ad settings) without an app update. The App downloads these settings from Google using a Firebase installation identifier.

3. Advertising Data

Free users see advertisements served by Google AdMob. The advertising network may collect:

• Advertising Identifiers: Google Advertising ID (Android) or Identifier for Advertisers (iOS, only if you allow tracking when asked)
• Device Information: Device type, operating system
• Ad Interaction Data: Ads viewed, clicked, or watched

Personalized Advertising:

• On iOS, we ask for your permission (App Tracking Transparency) before your advertising identifier can be used for tracking
• In regions where required (such as the EU/EEA and UK), we ask for your consent before personalized ads are shown
• Where consent is required, you can change your choice at any time in the App under Settings → Privacy choices (in the latest App version)
• If you decline personalized ads, you will still see ads, but they will be less relevant to you
• VoltPilot Pro subscribers do not see ads

4. Purchase Data

If you subscribe to VoltPilot Pro, we use RevenueCat to manage subscriptions:

• Transaction Information: Purchase date, subscription type, subscription status
• Entitlement Status: Whether your Pro subscription is active

We do NOT have access to your payment card details. All payments are processed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

5. Anonymous Usage Record

When the App starts, it signs in with Firebase Anonymous Authentication, which creates a random identifier that is not linked to your name or email. We keep one usage record per identifier in Firebase Firestore. It contains:

• The number of routes planned, AI insights used, and rewarded ads watched today, and today's date
• Your device's time-zone offset from UTC
• Whether you have VoltPilot Pro
• Your push notification token and when it was last updated, and your platform (iOS or Android)
• Server-maintained counters for AI insight usage and the date we last sent you a daily-limit reminder

We use this record to:

• Enforce the daily free-tier limits (the exact allowance is configurable and shown in the App) and prevent abuse
• Deliver push notifications to your device
• Where enabled, send a reminder at a sensible local time when a free user has reached their daily limit, mentioning VoltPilot Pro

The daily counters reset each day, but the record itself is kept so limits keep working across days. Only your own app session can change your record, and other users cannot browse or search these records; our servers can also read it. We do not use it for ad personalization and do not share it with advertisers.

On iOS, the anonymous identifier is also saved in your device's Keychain so that daily limits carry over if you delete and reinstall the App. Keychain data can survive uninstalling the App.

6. Clipboard (Shared Charger Links)

When someone shares a charger with you and you open the link on voltpilot.app without the App installed, the web page copies a short VoltPilot link code (the charger ID and a timestamp) to your clipboard before sending you to the App Store or Google Play. On the App's first launch, it reads the clipboard once to look for that code so it can open the shared charger. On iOS you may see a "paste" permission prompt.

• If the clipboard contains a valid VoltPilot code, the App opens that charger and clears the code from your clipboard
• Anything else on your clipboard is ignored and is not stored or sent anywhere
• The App does not read the clipboard again after that first check

7. Local Data

The following data is stored locally on your device only and is NOT transmitted to our servers:

• Favorite chargers list
• Saved routes
• App preferences (filters, selected vehicle, home energy rate)
• Cached AI analysis results (expires after 24 hours)

How We Share Your Information

We share information with the following third-party service providers:

Google Services

• Google Maps Platform: Receives your location, search queries, and route origin and destination to provide maps, directions, and place search. When you create a shareable charger card, Google Static Maps receives the charger location and, if you have a planned route, its start point, end point, and route path to draw the map image
• Google Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics & Performance Monitoring: Receive the analytics, error, and performance data described above
• Google Firebase Firestore & Authentication: Store route records and the anonymous usage record described above
• Google Firebase Remote Config: Delivers app settings
• Google Firebase Cloud Messaging: Receives your device token to deliver push notifications. We may send notifications about app updates, new features, service announcements, and daily free-tier limits or VoltPilot Pro. You can disable notifications at any time through your device settings.
• Google Firebase In-App Messaging: Displays contextual messages within the app based on user segments
• Google Firebase Cloud Functions: Our servers, which forward charger searches to OpenChargeMap and AI requests to Anthropic. Search coordinates are passed through to OpenChargeMap, and search results (keyed by an area rounded to about 11 km) are cached in memory for up to 60 minutes.
• Google AdMob: Receives advertising identifiers and device information to serve ads to free users

AI Analysis

• Anthropic (Claude): Receives charging-station details (station name, town and state/province, operator, status, connector types, pricing, and access type) together with publicly posted station reviews from OpenChargeMap, in order to generate an AI summary of the charger. This request is sent from our Cloud Function, not from your device, and does not include your location, your route, or any identifier. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, data submitted through their API is not used to train their models. AI summaries are generated automatically and may be inaccurate.

EV Charger Data Providers

• OpenChargeMap: Receives the coordinates of the area you are searching (your location, a map area, or points along your route) to find EV chargers. Requests normally go through our Cloud Function; if it is unavailable, the App contacts OpenChargeMap directly from your device
• Chargetrip (Pro users only): Receives the location of the charger you are viewing, directly from your device, to look up live status and tariff data

Purchase Management

• RevenueCat: Receives purchase transaction data and device identifiers to manage your subscription

App Stores

• Apple App Store / Google Play Store: Process your payments and manage app distribution

Data Retention

Your Rights and Choices

Location Access

You can disable location access at any time through your device settings. Note that this will limit the app's core functionality, such as finding chargers near you and starting routes from your current location.

Advertising Preferences

• On iOS, you can allow or deny tracking in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking
• Where consent is required, you can change your ad consent in the App under Settings → Privacy choices
• You can reset your advertising identifier or opt out of personalized ads through your device settings

Data Deletion

VoltPilot has no accounts, so we cannot look you up by name or email. To delete data stored only on your device (favorites, saved routes, preferences), uninstall the App or clear its data in your device settings. On iOS, the anonymous identifier kept in the Keychain may remain after uninstalling.

To request deletion of data held on our servers, email us at the address below. Because route records are not tied to an identifier we can see, please include the approximate date and time and the start and end areas of the routes you planned so we can find them. We will delete the records we can match and let you know what we deleted.

Do Not Track

Our app does not respond to "Do Not Track" signals. You can manage tracking and ad preferences through your device settings and the in-app privacy choices described above.

Children's Privacy

VoltPilot is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own, including the United States, where our service providers (Google, Anthropic, RevenueCat, OpenChargeMap, Chargetrip) maintain servers. These countries may have different data protection laws. By using the App, you consent to such transfers.

Security

We implement reasonable security measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

• Know what personal information we collect
• Request deletion of your personal information
• Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information
• Non-discrimination for exercising your rights

We do not sell personal information for money. Google AdMob may use advertising identifiers to show personalized ads to free users, which California law may treat as "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising. You can limit this by turning off personalized ads or tracking in your device settings, or by contacting us.

European Privacy Rights (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have the right to:

• Access your personal data
• Rectify inaccurate data
• Request erasure of your data
• Restrict processing
• Data portability
• Object to processing
• Withdraw consent at any time (for ads, via Settings → Privacy choices)
